LHYC Thistle Fleet 36

The Thistle is a 17 foot strict one design racing class that was established in 1945 by Sandy Douglas.  Coincidentally, Sandy spent summers on the lake as a teenager and lived on Elba Point where the Dressners currently live.   The Lake Hopatcong fleet #36 was formed in 1949 by T. David Gibb for whom the season series is named.  The fleet is one of the most competitive in the nation with several members finishing in the top 10 at the National Championships including two National Champions.  The Thistle is a great family class with events designed for adults and children.  We welcome anyone who would like to get involved in sailing, especially members of the junior sailing program
