HAPPENINGS AT THE CLUB
The idea was to make public access to complimentary boat excursions on Ms. Lotta more user friendly.
The LHYC was up to the task. On Friday 05/06, on a cold rainy afternoon, four intrepid members released the dock from her holding anchorage and QUICKLY learned that a 17' boat with a 40 horse power outboard was over powered by the E-NE breeze and 1550 sq.ft of Floating " Mind of Her Own" dock.
The Crew quickly realized this was not going to be simply accomplished. After much consternation it was figured out and the Beast was delivered, in a thread the needle fashion, that amazed all present.(about 4 people It was cold and raining).
On Saturday the "BEAST" came home safely ( no breeze and no rain) . In the End we only knocked one tire off dock #5 and lost one anchor pole, actually it fell over. We can find it.
Thanks to Mark Miller, Secretary Fred Eagles, and Trustee Dan Goritski,
who are smiling ear to ear for the experience.
WHO WE ARE...
The Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club began in 1905 and is one of the most active Yacht Clubs in the State of New Jersey.
The club is run by its members for its members. But the number one goal is Family First.
We maintain many traditions from 1905. The club features an active sailing and social schedule, with an emphasis on activities for the entire family. The club's sailing program includes a junior sailing instructional and racing program, as well as one-design racing in four fleets. The club has an excellent youth program, called "The Juniors", and many social affairs for young and old alike.
Membership. New prospective members are presented by existing members and approved by the entire membership. We also do not rent or offer our facilities to the general public.
Our instruction programs are open to the public. Non-members are also allowed to crew for members in fleet racing. Our social schedule includes a variety of Saturday night functions throughout the Spring and Summer. Find out about our spectacular 4th of July fireworks here.
The club also has weekday dining for members on the porch overlooking Lake Hopatcong. For information on membership, please click on the button labeled Information. The club is very proud of its historical status. Much effort has been made to maintain the club in its original state, while serving an active membership.
The LHYC Historical Foundation has been formed to support the maintenance and restoration of our historical building.
But the main goal and effort is to always involve our Families.
