Commodore Michael T. Smith
Mike has taken the position of Commodore as of October of 2015 and looks forward to an exciting and fruitful 2016 and 2017 season. Mike and his wife Chris joined LHYC in 2004. He has been a Trustee on the board and has enjoyed all the challenges that being the Rear Commodore and Vice Commodore have thrown at him.
Sailing for six years with the Escow fleet has given Mike the opportunity to get a greater appreciation of the enjoyment of competitive sailing and sharing the thrill of team work with his fellow fleet members.
Mike and Chris have been and continue to be very active in the Lake Hopatcong Antique and Classic Boat Society and can be seen on the lake in their 1948 Chris Craft "Smitten", regularly.
The Smith family currently lives in Hopatcong, NJ in the Byram Cove area and enjoy all the lake has to offer.
Mike grew up in Exeter, NH and moved to NJ for a career in sales. He has worked as a Manufacturers Representative for 43 years in the fastener and metal industry and is the owner of Smith Associates, Inc. in Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
Mike has been married to Chris for 32 years and have 2 lovely daughters, Mollie age 28 and Emily age 27 and a wonderful grandson Jayden age 7. Mollie and her family live in Kansas and Emily resides in NYC.
Mike and Chris are very proud to have the honor of being members of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club family and truly enjoy the role of officer of this club.
Vice Commodore, Brian Murphy
Vice Commodore Brian Murphy follows in the footsteps of his father, Eugene Murphy, who was Commodore of the LHYC from 1980 to 1981.
LHYC is a place where memories are made. Since birth Brian has been a member of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, as his family spent their summers on Raccoon Island. As a young boy he participated in the Jr. Sailing Program, and then worked at the LHYC in his teens. Crewing for his father in a Star boat began his many years as a competitive Star sailor. Now he is sharing his love of the club and the lake with his wife Colleen, and 3 daughters; Cathleen (18), Meghan (17) and Grace (13).
Sailing continues to be a family tradition. Brian bought a Thistle a few years ago so he could sail with his daughters, Cathleen and Meghan. Grace also sails on a Thistle with her aunt and uncle, and Colleen sails on an E-Scow. Sunday sailing is definitely a highlight of their week at the club.
LHYC is very special to the Murphy family, it’s like a second home. They are surrounded by family and have made life-long friends there. They can’t think of a better place to spend their summers!
Brian is proud to serve as one of the Commodores of the club. He and Colleen are thankful for all the support they have received and look forward to more great times at LHYC!
Rear Commodore Robert C. Restrick, IV
Rear Commodore Bob Restrick took on the position in October of 2015. A life long member, Bob looks forward to the challenges and opportunities the next six years will bring and the chance to give back to the club. The Restrick’s currently live in the Grammercy area of New York City. An avid sailor, he began skippering Stars in the early 90’s and has recently joined the Escow fleet where he races “IngE”.
